Shawl Work for Flamenco (Choreography)

The Manton de Manila (shawl) has been intrinsically linked with flamenco for as far back as the history of the art form has been traced.   Learn technique and traditional moves while exploring personal creativity.  Mantones originally came from China via the Philippines. The Spanish brought them to Spain in the 16th Century and they became popular in Sevilla.  They are pure silk and hand embroidered.  Basic technique can be learned with smaller shawls, the larger shawls are much more difficult to handle and very expensive.

Panuelas (scarves) technique will also be covered in this series.

Please contact us for purchase of shawl for class prior to first day of class.

Please bring soft dance shoe, no Flamenco or street shoes permitted on dance floor.

Some basic dance experience plus previous experience in Flamenco Rhythm Series is required.

Flamenco Rhythm Series

Learn the sounds, techniques and rhythms for accompanying dancers with Flamenco palmas (clapping).   This complex and integral skill contributes to the energy and feel of Flamenco while holding down the organic pulse that pulls everything together.

This workshop deals with the most important aspect of Flamenco.  All choreography is based on marking with palmas, body, feet and skirt to the compas (meter).

Please bring soft dance shoe, no Flamenco or street shoes permitted on dance floor.

This class is a pre-requisite for Shawl and Fan classes.  No experience necessary.
