Shawl Work for Flamenco (Choreography)
The
Manton de Manila
(shawl) has been intrinsically linked with flamenco for as far back as the history of the art form has been traced. Learn technique and
traditional moves while exploring personal creativity. Mantones originally came from China via the Philippines. The Spanish brought them to Spain in the
16th Century and they became popular in Sevilla. They
are pure silk and hand embroidered. Basic
technique can be learned with smaller shawls, the larger shawls are much more difficult to handle and very expensive.
Panuelas (scarves)
technique will also be covered in this series. Please contact
us for purchase of shawl for class prior to first day of class.
Please bring soft dance shoe, no Flamenco or street shoes permitted on dance
floor. Some
basic dance experience plus previous experience in Flamenco Rhythm Series is required. Pre-Registration is required by
